Welcome to the world of Goju-Ryu Karate
and Self-Defence.
. Instructor - Nassau, NP .
Bahamas Karate Academy was
founded by Sensei Elrick McKinney
in 1986.  With over thirty years
experience in Martial Arts, Sensei
McKinney is the Chief Instructor of
The Bahamas Karate Academy.
A Brief History of Goju-Ryu Karate
The style of karate practiced at our Dojos is Goju-Ryu.
The literal translation of the Japanese term Goju is
"hard/soft" -
go meaning hard and ju meaning soft.
Ryu means school, thus Goju-Ryu is the hard/soft
school of karate.

Goju-Ryu Karate was founded by Chojun Miyagi who
spent years in China training with the Chinese
masters of White Crane style Kung Fu before return-
ing to Okinawa to formulate what is now known as
Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate Do.

Okinawan Goju-Ryu made it's way to The Bahamas almost 20 years ago and today, there are over 500
Okinawan Goju Karatekas in The Bahamas, who train
under either Elrick McKinney of The Bahamas Karate Academy (Nassau), or Joye Ritchie-Greene of The Bahamas Martial Arts Academy (Freeport).

Karate is an exellent way to teach self-discipline and
develop self-esteem.  At each of our karate schools
young, and not so young karatekas are taught to
develop their minds, bodies and spirits.
.
He is also the Representative for the OKINAWAN
